As daughter in a family business succession, you inherit not only the business, but also the ghostly presence of the founder. The ghost does not impose a track to follow, nor does it constitute a strategic resource. It manifests itself as a feeling of ethical duty, commitment, and indebtedness. Four autoethnographic vignettes evoke a Japanese daughter successor finding her path while relating to her father’s ghostly presence. The ghost begs being attended to and respected, leading to a long journey of working through.
